Marylebone London

Day 1: Sunday July 7th, 2024

Hail a London cabbie and arrive at the lovely 4-star hotel, The Mandeville.

The Mandeville Hotel’s Marylebone location is on the doorstep of famous Bond Street, Marylebone High Street and Selfridges (the iconic department store) and is surrounded by the best of London’s shopping. The West End and London’s celebrated attractions are around the corner. You won't have to walk far to find the arts, culture, food & drink that London is famous for.

After unpacking, why not shake off your jet lag with a pre-dinner stroll through Regents Park or a relaxing walk down the Marylebone High Street, stopping at The Conran Shop and Daunts Books along the way to Selfridges department store.

We'll meet in the hotel lobby as we head out for the week's first dinner at the elegant Orrery Restaurant. It's a short walk from the hotel.

Day 2: Monday July 8th, 2024

Let’s meet in the lobby after breakfast and head to the British Museum. Dating back to 1753, one of the world’s oldest museums houses a vast collection of art and artifacts from various cultures and time periods. Treasures include the Rosetta Stone, the Elgin Marbles and several Egyptian mummies.

After the guided tour, we'll venture over to Circolo Popolare, a Sicilian Trattoria, for pizza and a salad before returning to our hotel via Oxford Street and St Christophers Place.

Enjoy time to relax or shop. We'll meet later for a pre-theatre meal at Clos Maggiore, presenting modern European cuisine. Cheers! The meal includes a glass of bubbly.

Tonight, we're headed to the West End for theatre to see *SIX, the story of King Henry the VIII - a comedic musical!

Henry VIII, despite his impressive list of achievements, is infamously known to be a wife killer. He married six women, beheading two of them. Not charming! This play tries to understand what the six ladies went through and is dramatically realized into a musical showdown.

The all-female cast and band creatively retells each woman's experience through the musical style of well known contemporary artists. For example, Catherine of Aragon’s big moment is told in a Beyonce-style anthem. The plot plays on a well known rhyme used to describe the details of Henry VIII’s wives: “Divorced, beheaded, died. Divorced, beheaded, survived.”

*May change if the show is no longer playing in July 2024.

Windsor

Day 3: Tuesday July 9th, 2024

After breakfast, we'll visit Windsor Castle. The world's oldest and largest inhabited castle is one of the official residences of the British monarch and was much loved by Queen Elizabeth II. We'll do a guided Windsor Tour and discover the rich history of this place that dates back over a thousand years.

We'll take time for lunch at The Loch and Tyne. Our chef presents an elevated modern take on a traditional English hot lunch.

After lunch, we'll make our way to the Windsor Promenade and take a wee boat ride along the river Thames for lovely views of the Windsor Bridge, Eaton College and the stunning riverside architecture.

We'll set aside some time to shop, enjoy one of the many tea shops for a light bite and explore the quaint town of Windsor.

We'll wind down on our ride back to London after a full day of sight-seeing.

Dinner is at your leisure tonight. Grab a friend and head out for fish and chips!

Day 4: Wednesday July 10th, 2024

After a sumptuous breakfast, we're headed to Kensington Palace, the former home of Princess Diana and the Prince of Wales, now the British King. We'll explore the splendid state apartments and learn historical tidbits about the British royal family on a guided tour.

Lunch takes the form of afternoon tea at The Pavilion. It will include your choice of tea, scones with clotted cream, finger sandwiches and delicious desserts. After this sweet indulgence, we'll take a walking tour through the beautiful Kensington Palace gardens. We'll stop to visit the Princess Diana Memorial, and continue through Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace.

After a short pause, we'll head to Westminster Abbey for Evensong at the nearly 1000-year-old church where English Kings and Queens are crowned.

Evensong is a church service traditionally held near sunset. The focus is singing psalms and other biblical canticles. You need not be a believer to enjoy the ancient choral music.

We'll return to the hotel for rest and relaxation before dinner. You can't say you've been to London without having a curry, now can you? Tonight, we'll dine at the wonderful Michelin-starred Trishna, billed as a contemporary take on coastal-influenced Indian Cuisine.

Day 5: Thursday July 11th, 2024

Today is the big day you will experience the Wimbledon Championships! After breakfast, we'll hop into a private van headed to The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Wimbledon is lauded as one of the world's  premier sporting events, and one of the most exclusive. Join us as tennis fans from all over the globe unite for this special tournament.

Your trusted debenture tickets offer you the best way to experience the tournament. Enjoy the matches from your 200-level seat (the same level as the Royal Box) and visit the Debenture Holders’ Lounge, a comfortable space inside the stadium.

Wimbledon Debentures are the best seats on Centre Court where the biggest stars play. With Wimbledon Debenture tickets, you can access the Debenture Holders’ lounges in the center and number one court areas. There are several excellent bars and first-rate restaurants to buy lunch and afternoon tea.

Centre Court now has a retractable roof guaranteeing a full days play, whatever the weather. The roof is closed in adverse weather conditions.

Centre Court will be the setting for the Women’s Semi-Finals, and we'll see not just one match but two! You'll also have the opportunity to swing by the Mixed Doubles Final. It's always fun to see how incredibly fast the doubles action is. For serious tennis fans, Junior Tennis is played on the outer courts. This is your chance to find the up and coming stars.

The Debenture Holders' Lounge is a private, air-conditioned space exclusively for Debenture ticket holders. It provides a pleasant escape between matches. The lounge is open from when gates open until one hour after the match conclusion.

Please note the dress code in the Debenture lounge is smart casual, with no dirty sneakers and no short shorts or halter/tops for women.

After a full day at Wimbledon, it's time to head back to the hotel.

As this is our last night together, we will meet for a farewell glass of bubbly and snacks in the hotel bar. This will be a time to reminisce about today's tennis action and share anecdotes and photos of our week together in London and Windsor.

Rest will come easy tonight.

FAQs

The trip officially starts on Sunday July 7th, but if you’re traveling across an ocean to get to England consider arriving a day or two early, so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. If you do decide to arrive early, just let us know and we’ll help you with the arrangements so you can stay in the same room should you wish.

Any of the London airports are fine but the major airports in London include Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Gatwick Airport (LGW) which has the easiest access to town. There is also London City Airport (LCY), Stansted Airport (STN), and Luton Airport (LTN) which tend to serve more local arrivals.

Airport transfers are not included. It is very easy to grab a taxi from the airport to your destination in London, or take the underground.

The weather is normally quite nice in July. High temperatures will be around 74F and low's will be around 59F.

We will have a zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
