FAQs
What day should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on the evening of April 2. If you're traveling across an ocean to get to South Africa, consider arriving a day early, so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone.
If you decide to arrive early, please notify us in the Add-on section, and we will reserve your room and ensure that you are accommodated in the same room as you will be when the trip begins.
What airport should I fly into?
You should fly into OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is the main international gateway for the Wild Women Awakening trip.
What time should I book my departing flight?
If you are not joining the Cape Town extension, please book your return flight from Johannesburg after 8:00 pm.
After the Cape Town extension, you're free to book your onward flights any time on April 13. Note that hotel check-out is 11 am.
What should I pack?
We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
Please note that due to the nature of the small domestic airline we are flying with, there are strict luggage policies. Each guest is allowed one checked soft-shell bag weighing no more than 15kg (33 pounds) and one 5kg (11 pounds) carry-on hand luggage.
What will the weather be like in April?
Expect warm days and cool evenings, with temperatures ranging from 57°F (14°C) in the morning to 88°F (31°C) in the afternoon. Skies are mostly clear, with minimal rainfall—ideal for wildlife viewing.
Do I need a visa to enter South Africa and/or Botswana?
For tourism trips of 90 days or less, U.S. citizens (U.S. passport holders) do not need a visa to visit South Africa or Botswana. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and have 3 blank pages.
What is the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
