Entering Budapest is enchanting, as the Danube enhances its charm and the rich history is visible in the narrow streets. Settling into your riverside haven reveals the city, prompting you to linger in a centuries-old bathhouse or stroll through Buda Castle district for stunning views and architecture before continuing on your adventure. As our journey unfolds, the beauty of the Danube Bend captivates us. Hungary’s ancient fortresses guard the river, while Szentendre’s vibrant streets invite creativity. In Hungary’s heartland, we savor Eger’s rich vineyards, where tradition flows into each glass. In Tard, village life’s peaceful rhythms surround us, showcasing Matyó embroidery’s timeless art. Lake Balaton’s shimmering waters provide a serene break, and the Tihany Peninsula enchants with its Abbey and views. By the time we reach Sopron’s Baroque charm, time seems to slow, allowing reflection on a journey filled with quiet wonders. These memories fragment a story lived, with each chapter deepening your Hungarian adventure.

Airfare to Hungary
For this trip, you'll fly into Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) to begin your journey in Hungary. Whether or not you're doing the extension, make sure to book your flight back home from Vienna International Airport (VIE) at the end of your trip.
Our trip officially starts on September 19th. If you want to allow enough time to settle in before the trip starts, consider arriving a day early and booking a pre-night stay in our Add-On section. This way, you’ll be refreshed and ready to begin the journey.
In September, Hungary enjoys mild, pleasant weather, with daytime temperatures between 61°F and 77°F (16°C to 25°C) and cooler nights around 50°F to 59°F (10°C to 15°C). Expect mostly sunny days with occasional light rain, especially later in the month.
We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
Presently, if you are a U.S. citizen, you do not need a visa to visit Hungary for tourism stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your intended travel dates.
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience. Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
