FAQs
What airport should I fly into and out of?
You should plan to fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 7 (or a day earlier) to begin the trip and depart from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on June 16.
When should I arrive?
The trip officially starts the evening of June 7, but if you're traveling overnight to get to Kenya, consider arriving a day early so you have time to rest, relax and get acclimated to the local time zone. You can purchase an Arrive Early option in the Add-ons section of this page.
What is the weather like in June?
June brings bright, clear sunny days with mild daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 27°C (59°F to 80°F) in the safari highlands, meaning vehicles do not get overwhelmingly hot.
- Even better, the sudden drop in humidity and lack of rain mean mosquito and tsetse fly populations crash. This slashes your risk of bites and vastly improves overall outdoor comfort. Lastly, clear night skies mean refreshing, cool evenings and early mornings, which is perfect for gathering around safari campfires.
Do I need a visa?
Yes, you need a visa to enter Kenya, which can be obtained online through the eVisa portal.
Similarly, a visa is required for entry into Tanzania, and you can apply for it online via the Tanzania Immigration Services website.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel tips.
What about vaccinations?
We will discuss this on our pre-trip call. We recommend looking at the CDC guidelines for Kenya and Tanzania at this time of the year. Most people will opt to get malaria tablets and make sure they are up to date on all their shots.
Currently, Kenya requires all travelers to have a yellow fever vaccination.
What is the activity level of this trip?
Easy. On safaris, there is little to no walking because most of your time will be spent in the vehicle on game drives. However, on certain outings, you'll need to be able to walk at a normal pace unassisted, and there may be some elevation changes. Guests should be comfortable walking on uneven ground, such as gravel paths and dirt trails, as assistance may not always be available.
