Overview

The Côte d'Azur isn't just a place; it's a legend. For generations, it has whispered of glamour, art, and sun-kissed escapes. But our journey is not about the fleeting crowds. It's about immersing ourselves in the region's timeless soul: the scent of pine and lavender on the breeze, the glint of sunlight on impossibly blue water, and the stories held within magnificent cliffside villas and ancient castles. We’ve unlocked the secret to experiencing it: we travel in the golden light of early October. We bypass the frantic heat and traffic of high summer, arriving after the crowds have departed. The Mediterranean still sparkles with warmth, the air is soft and divine, and the cobblestone streets are yours to explore. This is a journey of discovery, venturing beyond the postcards. We’ll divide our time between the excitement of our 5-star seaview hotel in Nice and a welcoming yet posh stay in picturesque Cassis. We'll taste world-class wines that capture the sun-drenched terroir in a glass and take to the sea, witnessing the dramatic coastline from the one vantage point that truly does it justice. Our adventure culminates in the dynamic port of Marseille, a vibrant mosaic of culture and history, reborn as one of France's most exciting cities. Whether you're fulfilling a lifelong dream or rekindling a love affair with France, this is your invitation to see this iconic region as an insider, surrounded by the warmth and laughter of fellow female travelers.

Cassis

Day 5: Thursday, October 14, 2027

Today, after breakfast at our hotel, we'll head out for a boat ride to see the Calanques (similar to fjords), just offshore from this quaint harbor town. After our lovely tour, use the rest of the morning to explore this stunning seaside town on your own.

A visit to Parfumerie L'eau de Cassis is highly recommended, as well as a good perusal of the harbor and the shops. Maybe even put your toes in the sand and take a refreshing morning swim!

For lunch, we'll dine on paella or your choice of freshly caught fish, guaranteed to be fresh since we are dining at the fishmonger's seafood market.

We're off to discover the best rosé in the world, made right here in Cassis. We’ll take a tour and tasting at the historic Clos Sainte MagdeleineThe villa itself is as gorgeous and delectable as their organic wines. They've been producing wine here since the 12th century!

It's time to head back to our oasis by the sea for some relaxation or a seaside stroll.

Later this evening, we'll head up to Cassis et Romarin for a casual meal of crêpes and salad. Rest will come easily tonight.

Marseille

Day 6: Friday, October 15, 2027

Today we’ll hit the road to discover Marseille, just a 30-minute ride away. Over the past decade or so, Marseille has undergone the most significant urban renewal project in all of Europe. Now, pedestrian-friendly, you'll find old-world charm at the Old Port, a sparkling new museum, and alluring creative districts with artisanal shopping galore.

We'll leave Cassis around 10 am, and our first stop in town will be the neo-Byzantine Marseille Cathedral, called La Major, with a local guide.

Next, we'll visit the town's newest attraction, an underground cave experience called the Grotte Cosquer. This detailed replica mimics the Upper Palaeolithic cave discovered by diver Henri Cosquer in 1985. Due to rising sea levels that have made the original site inaccessible, this experience offers a glimpse of over 500 drawings and engravings of land and marine animals.

After making our way around the Old Port, we'll transfer to the hip Cours Julien district, where you'll be free to wander on your own and peruse shops or sit down at any of the cafes calling your name. This bohemian district is described as an open-air art gallery known for its creative, eccentric energy.

As the afternoon winds down, we'll head over to Marseille's oldest district, le Panier, for a street art walking tour followed by a stop for coffee or tea to keep us caffeinated.

To round out this wonderful day of exploration, we'll attend a theatrical dining experience featuring true Bouillabaisse in the town that created it at the famous and historic Chez Fonfon.

After a short ride home to Cassis, you'll be dreaming of the sights and sounds of the glorious Mediterranean, ready to rest after a day well spent.

Reviews

"The trip was totally amazing and magical. Our guide, Nancy McGee was wonderful! Not only did she have an incredible tour planned, but was full of history, local and regional knowledge and customs. We saw and did things that the general public may not know about, or able to get in or experience. The group of women were wonderful!! We laughed so hard and everyone was included. Our private vans were clean and modern. The van drivers also gave us historical information along the ride. There were water bottles for all of us every day! Don’t hesitate to sign up. Truly, a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t be afraid to go solo. You will have an immediate bond with all the women."

"I wish I could give a "Girls Guide to Paris" 10 stars instead of 5!!! What a memorable and FUN trip this past October in Provence! You will not find Doni's GG2P itineraries in a tourist guide. Accommodations in a charming bed and breakfast, truffle hunting, personalized cooking classes, unique dining experiences, a wine-tasting in a cave, two dedicated and charming drivers and a great group of gals!! I especially appreciated her kindness, her patience and her understanding of our fitness levels and her making adjustments to accommodate everyone. This attention to detail and her flexibility quickly eased the normal stresses of traveling and helped us all to just "relax and enjoy." Doni's exuberant and engaging personality, combined with her extensive knowledge of France and the Provence area, were an added bonus to my "Trip of a Lifetime!" THANK YOU DONI FOR TURNING MY PROVENCE ADVENTURE INTO A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY!!!I I plan on booking more adventures turns with GG2P in 2023!! I can't wait to see what she has in store for my next adventure!!"

FAQs

There are two sensible options:

1) The most convenient is to fly directly to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE).

2) Or, you can fly into Paris (Charles De Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY) airports and then connect to Nice.

Or, if you plan on spending some time in Paris before or after the trip, you can fly one-way to/from Paris or Nice. It's an easy train ride back to Paris at the end of the trip if you do fly home from Paris.

The trip officially starts on October 10, but if you're flying overnight to get to France, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. (Or fly into Paris early and spend several days there)!

If you do decide to arrive early, check out our Add On section to book your pre-trip night in Nice at Le Meridien. Booking with us ensures you'll stay in the same room once the trip officially begins.

We'll have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.

The weather in the French Riviera in October is usually mild and comfortable, with daytime temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s°F (20–23°C). Evenings can turn cool, often dipping into the mid-50s to low 60s°F. October is slightly wetter than the summer months, so there’s a chance of occasional rain, but plenty of sunny days as well.

Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries—including the U.S., Canada, and Australia—will need an ETIAS permit to visit most of Europe.

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.

Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
