Overview

The Amalfi Coast is not merely a destination; it is a symphony of breathtaking drama. Here, sheer, jade-green cliffs plummet into the crystalline embrace of the sparkling Mediterranean. Pastel-hued villages, like jewels scattered across a painter's palette, clutch precariously to the rugged contours of the landscape. Imagine the cascading beauty of Positano's homes tumbling down to the shore, or the historic grace of Amalfi, guarded by its magnificent cathedral. The drive itself is a thrill—the legendary Strada Statale 163, the 'road of 1,000 bends,' unfurls before you, offering dizzying, panoramic vistas that steal your breath with every turn. Capri is a legendary island jewel rising dramatically from the deep blue Tyrrhenian Sea, known for its sheer limestone cliffs and breathtaking natural beauty. Travelers flock here to experience its unique blend of untamed nature and sophisticated Italian glamour. Step back into a world frozen by ash. We'll walk the silent streets of Pompeii, where the ghosts of an ancient empire whisper beneath the shadow of the awe-inspiring Mount Vesuvius. Witness history etched in stone and feel the profound weight of time. No Italian sojourn is complete without a deep dive into its culinary soul. Prepare to savor the authentic taste of la dolce vita. Indulge in plates piled high with the freshest bounty of the sea, pasta lovingly crafted by hand, and the intense, sun-drenched fragrance of the region's famous lemons. This is simple, spectacular Italian food at its absolute peak. This trip is an adventure dedicated to the most precious things in life: unfettered friendship, profound natural beauty, restorative R&R, and the sheer, spectacular pleasure of Italian living.

Welcome to Naples

Day 1: Monday, October 11, 2027

Fly into Naples International Airport (NAP) by midday. If you're taking an overnight flight, we recommend arriving a day early so you can rest, relax, and adjust to the local time. You’ll find the “Arrive 1 Day Early” option in the Add-ons section.

Either way, grab one of the many taxis at the airport taxi stand and head to our 4-star hotel, the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia in central Naples. It has a glorious sea view.

Take time to settle in and freshen up. We'll meet in the early evening for a drink and to discuss our week together. Then, we'll take a walking tour of downtown Naples with an expert guide.

We'll enjoy dinner in Naples tonight as we get to know each other better and toast to new friendships in a beautiful place.

Pompeii - Sorrento

Day 2: Tuesday, October 12, 2027

After breakfast today, we’ll visit Vulcan – or Hephaestus if you prefer his Greek incarnation. Vulcan ruled fire and volcanoes in ancient times, and today, we’ll discover Pompeii, the volcano that stopped time in 79 AD. An expert guide will lead us through the ancient city that was buried under 20 feet of volcanic ash when Vesuvius erupted. This natural disaster has given us a glimpse of what life was like almost 2000 years ago.

From Pompeii, we’ll hop back into our private transport and zip off to lunch and a wine tasting at Cantina del Vesuvio. We’ll sample wines from this volcanic area before heading to Sorrento and checking into our new hotel, the Hotel Continental.

You’ll have time to relax and get to know our home base for the next few days. Maybe dip in their pool or simply soak in the views at their rooftop bar.

We'll come together for dinner at the hotel restaurant, Terrazza Vittoria, for fresh seafood and great conversation over cold cocktails as the sun sets

Amalfi Coast

Day 3: Wednesday, October 13, 2027

Prepare to taste the best of the Amalfi region today.

Our first stop is at a local olive oil mill, where we can observe the production of Italy's essential ingredient. We'll tour the mill and sample various local olive oils, with a unique opportunity at the end to purchase bottles straight from the source.

Next, we’ll tour a limoncello factory at Il Convento and walk through lemon groves. Learn from locals how this golden sunshine digestive is made and why the regional lemons are so important to its production.

Lunch is served at a farmhouse among the lemon groves. How quintessentially Italian is that?

In the afternoon, we’ll zip back to Sorrento, where you can take time to relax with a drink on the terrace, go shopping, explore this charming seaside town, or read a great book with an Aperol spritz in hand as you gaze at the jaw-dropping view of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

We'll enjoy a lovely meal together this evening at Donna Sofia, a cozy taverna tucked away in the town, waiting to serve up delicious Italian favorites.

Capri

Day 4: Thursday, October 14, 2027

Sip your cappuccino at the hotel, then grab your sunglasses and swimsuit – we’re off to Capri in a private boat. This is a thrilling way to see the Amalfi Coastline. Weather permitting, we'll visit the famous Blue Grotto along the way.

We’ll dock for lunch on the island and enjoy a meal at a seaside eatery with the waves lapping nearby. Tuck into a Caprese salad and delicious pasta, but make sure you leave room for dessert because we’ll stop in town for some gelato and free time to explore and shop.

At the end of the day, our captain will take us back to the hotel in Sorrento. It’s been a big day – enjoy dinner alone or with friends in town, or order room service and unwind.

Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano

Day 5: Friday, October 15, 2027

Our private driver will pick us up after breakfast to explore the highlights of the Amalfi Coast. This is the Amalfi you’ve seen on postcards and travel shows, the curling coastline featuring dramatic cliffs and colorful villas juxtaposed against the azure sea.

We’ll visit Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano, three villages guaranteed to fill your camera with snapshots of La Dolce Vita! Fragrant lemon groves line the hillsides, and darling shops and cafes hide along cobblestone alleyways. Getting from Positano to Amalfi is part of the fun because we’ll take a mini-cruise in a boat from one beachside town to the next. The rest of the tour is by minibus.

After driving to Positano and exploring for a bit, we'll board the mini cruise over to Amalfi, where we'll meet our guide for a tour of the stunning Baroque St. Andrew's Cathedral

We’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at Taverna Buonvicino, complete with all the Italian classics - anchovies, pasta alla genovese, and linguine alla Buonvicino. After we refuel, it's off to our last stop of the day: Ravello.

We'll be treated to a tour of the gorgeous 13th-century Villa Rufolo, a massive estate overlooking the picturesque coastline.

After making our way back to our hotel, be sure to savor this last night in Sorrento before we leave for Naples tomorrow. Dinner is on your own this evening.

We say arrivederci to Sorrento today. Enjoy a light, leisurely breakfast at the hotel and take one last long look at the seaside. We’ll have free time this morning to relax or explore.

We're going to put you to work for your lunch today. We'll slice and dice with a local chef at Nonna Flora cooking school and then dig into the fruits of our labor for a midday feast!

After lunch, we'll board the mini-bus for a 90-minute drive back to bustling Naples. We’ll check into the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia, located in the city center, and take some time to relax.

This evening, we will share our final dinner together at Transatlantico and raise a toast to the wonderful trip we've experienced!

Reviews

"Where do I start??? This trip was one of the most enjoyable, if not THE most enjoyable trip I have ever taken - and I did a lot of traveling before Covid. ... The trip definitely exceeded my expectations based on how well the itinerary was planned, the hotels and restaurants that were chosen and how wonderful it was to have someone like Regina as our facilitator. "If you are contemplating a solo trip Girls Guide is the way to go. I was apprehensive because this was my first solo travel internationally. This trip changed me, it took me out of my comfort zone and made me realize that if you tell yourself you can do something you really can! I was so present and enjoyed every minute of this wonderful experience with some really great ladies." - Tracy D.

FAQs

The trip officially starts the afternoon of October 11, but if you’re traveling overnight to get to Italy, consider arriving a day early so you have time to rest, relax and adjust to the local time zone. (There's an Arrive 1 Day Early option in the Add-ons section you can purchase if you decide to come early).

Book your flight into Naples International Airport (NAP).

We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.

October on the Amalfi Coast brings pleasantly mild weather, with daytime temperatures usually ranging from 65–72°F (18–22°C) and evenings cooling to around 55–60°F (13–16°C).

The summer crowds have thinned, but the sea is often still warm enough for a swim, and the mix of sunshine with occasional rain showers makes for lush, colorful landscapes. It’s an ideal time to enjoy the coastal towns and cliffside views in a more relaxed, comfortable setting.

Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries—including the U.S., Canada, and Australia—will need an ETIAS permit to visit most of Europe.

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.

Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
