FAQs

Fly into Sydney International Airport (SYD).

Our trip ends in Cairns, so arrange to fly out of the Cairns Airport (CNS) and back to Sydney, home, or beyond.

If you are joining us on our extension trip, plan to fly out of Melbourne Airport (MEL).

The trip officially starts on September 10, 2025, but if you are traveling across an ocean to reach Sydney, consider arriving a day early to allow time for relaxation and adjustment to the local time zone.

If you decide to arrive early, please let us know, and we will book the room for you and ensure that you stay in the same room until the trip begins.

We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.

Sydney in September is a beautiful time of year. The temperature ranges from the low 50s at night to the mid-70s during the day.

Cairns in September is a fantastic time of year, considered the springtime. Temperatures will range from the low 70s to mid-80s. And the water temperature in the sea for snorkeling is close to 80°F.

U.S. citizens must apply for a valid Australian visa to enter the country. Fortunately, U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for the Australia ETA (Electronic Travel Authority, Subclass 601), which can be done entirely online. Our team will assist you with the process.

Yes, there are activities on the water. If you are prone to motion sickness, please bring appropriate medications, acupressure bands, and any personal remedies you prefer; alternatively, let us know if you would like to opt out of the water activities, and we can gladly find you something else to do.

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience. Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
