Akagera National Park

Post-Trip Extension - Day 1: Monday, September 7, 2026

Our adventure begins after a leisurely lunch in Kigali, where we’ll board a private safari vehicle for a scenic drive to Akagera National Park. The journey takes us east through Rwanda’s rolling hills until we reach the park’s South Gate by late afternoon. In the month of September, the maximum temperature is 75°F and the minimum 50°F, perfect weather for outdoor adventures.

Easy to moderate. All of our trips include some walking so you need to be able to walk 3-5 miles a day at a normal pace and at be able to sustain your walking speed. People have joined our tours from 21-88 and we don't do anything extreme but if you have bad knees or back or walk with a cane you need to speak to us first to see if this trip is right for you. At times you'll need to be able to walk on uneven ground such as cobble stone and to go up and down stairs unassisted. You also need to be able to handle your own suitcase.

If you are in reasonable shape you can make both of these treks however getting in good shape and being able to walk up hills and at elevation is something you should train for. The ground particularly for the gorillas is not necessary a path, the guides will be bushwhacking our way through the bamboo forest at times so good shoes with traction are necessary.
