Some say 60 is the new 40, but I say it's the perfect age to start a second career! I've officially traded hospital wards for travel, and honestly, the stories are just as compelling. Leading a group of brilliant travelers around my beloved home country is an absolute joy. And let's be real ... it involves a lot more meatballs.
Our trip is one for the history books! We dive headfirst into Helsinki, tackling a salmon soup so divine it could probably solve international conflicts and meatballs so perfect they deserve their own epic poem. We storm the historic walls of Suomenlinna (with cameras, not cannons) and engage in some seriously strategic, wallet-lightening shopping.
Of course, nothing will ever top Finland, but my heart does have a second home on the sunny shores of Biarritz, France. Still, even the best French croissant can't quite compete with the shared laughter on the ferry back from Suomenlinna.
It's been a wild and wonderful new chapter—a rather unexpected second act for a former hospital chaplain.

FAQs
When should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on the afternoon of August 11, 2026, but if you're traveling overnight to get to Finland, you may want to consider arriving a day early. There's an Arrive 1 Night Early option in the Add-ons section of this webpage.
What airport should I fly into?
Fly into the Helsinki Airport (HEL). The airport is about 30 minutes north of the city center and offers convenient access to the capital.
What is the weather like in August?
The average temperature across the country is 59°F (15°C), although it's likely to be warmer in the southern and central areas. The weather will likely still be fine most of the time, but we might encounter some rain, so make sure to bring a rain jacket.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What are the new travel requirements for entering Europe?
Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries - including the U.S., Canada, and Australia - will need an ETIAS permit to visit most of Europe. No action is needed just yet. As we get closer to the launch date, likely several months in advance, we’ll share all the details on how to apply. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
What's the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
