Overview

Like many shy but brilliant people, Mexico doesn't reveal herself all at once. She might show you her party persona in Cancun or Puerto Vallarta, but the real Mexico holds onto her secrets, only revealing them when you take the time to look deeply. Uncover the real Mexico on an unforgettable adventure starting in the heart of Mexico City, a dynamic blend of history, art, and urban vitality. Imagine wandering through cultural treasures, indulging in gourmet delights, and getting lost in architectural masterpieces like Casa Barragan. A must-see is Casa Azul, the enchanting former home of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, now a museum bursting with her artistic spirit. Next, we’ll head to the Valle de Bravo, one of Mexico’s enticing “pueblos mágicos,” nestled on the shores of Lake Avándaro. This picturesque retreat, with its misty, forested hills and terracotta-tiled rooftops, offers a serene atmosphere reminiscent of Italy’s northern lakes. The highlight of our journey is an immersive experience with world-renowned floral designer Gabriela Salazar at La Musa de las Flores. Our final destination is the mystical village of Tepoztlán, another charming “pueblo mágico” near Cuernavaca. It is known as the legendary birthplace of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec feathered serpent god. Tepoztlán captivates with its dramatic, copper-toned mountain cliffs and rich blend of colonial and Indigenous culture. Let’s embrace the beauty, magic, and kindness of Mexico together. It’s an adventure you’ll cherish forever!

Day 2: Sunday, September 7th, 2025

Today, we'll devote ourselves to art and architecture and sampling Mexico City's extraordinary food market scene.

Our first point of call is Casa Luis Barragan, one of the most iconic pieces of mid-century Mexican architecture – a building ahead of its time. Built in 1948, it is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our lunch is a walking and tasting tour of Coyoacan Market. Here, we will sample local quesadillas, tostadas, Tacos Al Pastor, Elote (Mexican Street Corn), Tlacoyos, and chocolate.

We'll close our day at the Frida Kahlo Casa Azul House and Museum, a pilgrimage every woman must make while in CDMX.

Dinner is at Animal in the Polanco neighborhood, a restaurant on everyone’s "best" list. Its urban sophistication seamlessly complements its wild retreat aesthetic, giving diners a visual and culinary feast not easily forgotten!

Valle de Bravo

Day 3: Monday, September 8th, 2025

After an early breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and drive to the Valle de Bravo (although you might think you've arrived in the Garden of Eden). Our first stop there is La Musa de las Flores, a flower lover's paradise.

Owner and founder Gabriela Salazar is from Mexico but lived in England for five years. At her creation, La Musa de las Flores, she teaches an intentional, sustainable floral design style. We’ll meet Gabriela as she leads us through her flower garden. Then, we'll relax in this serene environment with a glass of wine and settle in for a delectable catered lunch.

After our flower excursion, we will check into our lovely hotel, La Casa Rodavento. Why not head out to the local shops or rest before we meet for some Mezcal on the rooftop lounge? This will surely enlighten our taste buds before a fabulous dinner at the hotel's Nuestro Restaurante.

Day 4: Tuesday, September 9th, 2025

Wake up in your gorgeous hotel room and pop down to breakfast.

Then, we’ll meet Gabriela again and wander around her garden and the surrounding countryside to collect items for our bouquets. In the morning, we'll have a bouquet class, during which Gabriela will show us how to mindfully mix her unique, organic flowers with our foraged items. We'll then have a healthy lunch in the garden.

Take your flower arrangements to the hotel and admire your creations for the next few days.

This afternoon, you're free to shop or relax. Tonight, we’ll celebrate our new-found artistry and respect for nature with a jubilant meal at a sister resort. Enjoy the fantastic five-course floating dinner on a private lake.

Tepoztlán

Day 5: Wednesday, September 10th, 2025

Today, we'll drive about three hours to Tepoztlán, a pueblo mágico (magic village). This small but alluring village outside Cuernavaca is known for the small pyramid at the top of a nearby hill dedicated to Ometochtli–Tepoztēcatl, the guru of pulque, a beer-like drink made from the maguey plant. The pyramid, known as El Tepozteco, dates back to 1452. The region is also renowned for its handicrafts, including artisanal weaving, pottery, and basket-making.

We'll explore the market in Tepoztlán and try a sample of pulque! There are many delicious market food options to snack on or grab something at the pool bar when we arrive at the resort.

The Hotel Amomoxtli will be our home for the next two nights. After unpacking, you’ll have free time to unwind. Why not book an optional treatment and pamper yourself at the hotel's fantastic spa?

Tonight’s meal is at La Veladora, which combines the flavors of Morelos and Bajat. Tepozteco chef Iván Quiroz designed the menu, which features fresh fish from the Sea of Cortez, produce from the Valley of Tepoztlán, and some other corners of Morelos.

Cuernavaca

Day 6: Thursday, September 11th, 2025

After breakfast, we'll head over to Cuernavaca, the city of Eternal Spring, an hour-long drive west.

Our first stop is the Robert Brady House Museum, which is dedicated to the owner, poet, writer, and collector. He was born in Iowa, lived in Venice, and then traveled the world collecting art and artifacts before settling in the 16th-century monastery in the 1960s.

We'll have lunch at Casa Hidalgo. Life may not always be a walk in the park, but after lunch, we’ll walk in the Jardín Juárez park, complete with a gazebo designed by Gustave Eiffel. Then, you have time to shop at the nearby craft markets or discover, on your own, the Palacio de Cortes from 1521 with its Diego Rivera murals. We’ll pop into the pink Chapel of the Third Order of San Francisco on our way back to the resort.

Tonight’s meal is at Mesa de Origen. The food is scrumptious, and you’ll enjoy the cocktail menu and the excellent selection of local Mexican wines (don’t knock them until you’ve tried them. Mexico produces some delicious wines). As the evening unfolds, we’ll reminisce about our fabulous time together in Mexico, sharing stories, photos, and laughter—a perfect ending to an extraordinary journey.

FAQs

You should fly in and out of Mexico City International Airport (MEX).

The trip officially starts on the afternoon of September 6th. Please ensure you arrive by 12:00 pm. If your flight doesn't get in until later, or you'd like some time to relax in Mexico City, there's an Arrive One Day Early option you can purchase as an Add-On.

For departures, we will arrive back in Mexico City on September 12th at around 2:00 pm, so make sure your departure flight is scheduled for 5:00 pm or later. If this is not possible, we can arrange a private transfer back to the airport (at an additional cost).

September is an ideal time to visit Mexico, with temperatures ranging from 70°F to 79°F (about 23°C).

We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience. Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
