Hosts
Marie Coles
Marie grew up in a small farming community on the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. Being a free-spirited, adventurous type, it wasn’t long before she spread her wings and started roaming around her country, exploring “nooks & crannies,” meeting amazing people, and forming life-long friendships. She has traveled to far-flung places around the world.
Still, an enduring love of her homeland now sees her residing in Aotearoa with her family, one spoilt cat, and ten chickens. After many years working in the travel and tourism industry, Marie founded her own company, Roam Travel Adventures, specializing in women-only tours. She has carefully crafted this unique itinerary, especially for GG2TW – a bespoke tour you will not find anywhere else on the market.

FAQs
What airport should I fly into and out of?
The tour begins in Auckland (AKL) and ends in Queenstown (ZQN). If you prefer to fly round-trip to/from Auckland, our concierge can help arrange a domestic flight back to Auckland at an additional cost.
Queenstown offers flights to both Auckland, Christchurch, and a handful of other Australian cities if you're planning onward travel.
What day should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on the afternoon of March 11, but if you are traveling overnight to get to New Zealand, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. There's an Arrive 1 Day Early option in the Add-ons section.
What should I pack?
We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What will the weather be like at this time?
March is one of New Zealand's warmest summer months, offering long, sunny days perfect for outdoor activities. Temperatures generally range from 62°F to 80°F, with the North Island being warmer and more humid, while the South Island is slightly cooler, particularly at night.
Do I need a visa?
US citizens traveling to New Zealand for tourism need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA), which costs about $20 NZD and takes up to 72 hours to process.
Please apply in advance here. Once you receive the eVisa letter, carry it with you on your trip.
What is the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
