Reviews

"I'm just home from Portugal, my third trip with Girls Guide to the World. I'm an experienced traveler, not shy about traveling by myself but what I love about Girls Guide trips are the company of other travel-minded women and the fact that someone else manages the logistics of travel and any trouble that arises, making the trip so relaxing. In Portugal, I was one of a group of seven women, all fabulous and lovely to talk to; we really bonded and had great camaraderie. And Casey, our guide was great too, with extra tips on what to do and where to eat for our free time. I am already studying the roster of offerings for potential trips for 2025."

"I can absolutely unequivocally recommend traveling with GG2W. I booked solo and met 7 other women who were delightful (6 travelers and 1 guide). It was the Portugal Unveiled trip. Everything was wonderful and handled so well. I will definitely book another trip if they are going where and when I want."

FAQs

Fly into Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), the main international airport serving Lisbon.

The trip officially starts on the afternoon of October 20th. However, if you’d like to arrive a day early to settle in and explore the city at your own pace, we recommend booking a pre-night stay in the Add-on section of this page. This extra time can help you adjust and get a head start on soaking in Lisbon’s charm before the group activities begin.

We have included round-trip airfare from Lisbon to Funchal, meaning our trip officially ends in the early afternoon of October 28th in Lisbon.

However, if your onward flights don't quite line up with that timeline, feel free to book your own flights out of Funchal. There are direct flights from the island to London, Paris, and Newark, if that suits you better.

In late October, both Lisbon and Madeira enjoy mild, pleasant weather ideal for sightseeing and outdoor adventures. Lisbon typically sees temperatures around 65–75°F (18–24°C) with plenty of sunshine and a light coastal breeze, while Madeira remains slightly warmer, averaging 70–78°F (21–26°C), offering comfortable days for hiking, exploring gardens, or relaxing by the sea.

We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel tips.

Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries - including the U.S., Canada, and Australia - will need an ETIAS permit to visit most of Europe. No action is needed just yet.

As we get closer to the launch date, likely several months in advance, we’ll share all the details on how to apply. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.

Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.

Visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to see answers to most other questions about traveling with Girls' Guide to the World.
