Essaouira - Guided Tour & Hammam

Day 9: Friday, March 19, 2027

Breakfast in Essaouira often starts with a blend of Moroccan and French influences. Think freshly baked msemmen (Moroccan pancakes), honey, olive oil, and a strong cup of mint tea or rich Arabic coffee.

A guided tour of Essaouira reveals the city’s rich history and bohemian charm. With a knowledgeable local guide, you'll wind through the narrow alleys of the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where whitewashed buildings and blue shutters reflect the town's blend of Portuguese and Moroccan heritage.

Along the way, there's time to shop. Essaouira is known for its vibrant souks full of handcrafted goods: thuya wood items, argan oil products, colorful textiles, and intricate jewelry. Our guide will point out hidden gems and introduce you to local artisans, offering a deeper connection to the town’s culture and craftsmanship. We'll grab lunch along the way at a local restaurant.

After the bustle of the medina, the beach offers a change of pace. Essaouira's long, sandy shoreline is perfect for a relaxing walk or a refreshing dip in the Atlantic. The constant breeze makes it popular for windsurfing, kitesurfing, or simply flying a kite.

As the afternoon fades, there’s no better way to unwind than at a traditional hammam. These steam baths offer a cleansing, deeply relaxing experience with exfoliating scrubs, warm steam, and soothing oils, leaving you refreshed and glowing after a day full of sights, scents, and sea air.

Before dinner, we’ll enjoy a traditional henna ceremony, a beloved Moroccan ritual where local artists adorn our hands with intricate, symbolic designs—a meaningful and beautiful way to mark our journey.

As we sit down to dine at our hotel, we’ll be treated to a multi-course feast of Moroccan flavors: perhaps tender lamb or chicken tagine with apricots and almonds, couscous with aromatic vegetables, freshly baked breads, and local seafood infused with herbs and spices.

Sweet mint tea and traditional pastries will round out the evening. As we savor this final meal, we’ll reflect on the unforgettable experiences we've shared, the friendships we've forged, and the magic of Morocco we’ll carry home with us.

Reviews

Just returned from an 8 day trip to Southern Morocco with Girls' Guide to the World. Traveled with a small group of ladies and what a wonderful trip. I took this trip with a friend but I wouldn't hesitate to go solo. The tour director, Katrin, was wonderful, always willing to help make our trip special and our Moroccan Guide, Mohamed was so knowledgeable. There was a good balance between touring and free time. The hotels and restaurants were all exceptional. The spa experience and riding a camel in the desert are cherished memories. Would definitely recommend a trip with Girls Guide to the World. -Janet F.

FAQs

Plan on flying in and out of the Marrakech Airport (RAK). Our driver will be waiting to whisk you into town upon arrival, and on departure, we will provide a group airport transfer, arriving at the airport around 1 pm.

The trip officially starts on the afternoon of March 11, but if you're traveling across an ocean to get to Morocco, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone.

If you do decide to arrive early, you can book an extra night directly through the website in the Add On section. This way, we'll make sure you don't need to change rooms when the trip starts.

Airport transfers are included on the day the trip starts and if you purchase the Arrive 1 Day Early Add-on. If you're arriving at a different time, transfers are not included but we can make arrangements to have you picked up at the airport and brought to the hotel for an additional cost.

We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.

March is a great time to visit Morocco. It is the beginning of Spring. The temperature in Morocco in March grows warmer during the day, with average daytime temperatures of 68°F-75°F, depending on the area you visit.

Nights are still chilly, though with nighttime temperatures between 50°F-55°F. March tends to be the second rainiest month of the year, so pack a light rain jacket just in case.

You do not need a special visa to enter Morocco. Don’t forget your passport. It’s the one item that’s tough to replace. Please ensure enough empty pages and that it is valid for a full six months from the date you return from the trip.

We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.

Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.

Visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to see answers to most other questions about traveling with Girls' Guide to the World.
