FAQs
What airport do I fly into?
Book your flights to/from Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
What day should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on Thursday, July 29th, but if you're flying overnight to get to Iceland, consider arriving a day early to rest, relax, and adjust to the local time. You can purchase the Arrive 1 Day Early option in the Add-ons section or make your own arrangements.
How do I get from the airport to Reykjavik?
Since people arrive at different times, we haven't organized a group transfer. Instead, you can choose one of the options below for an easy transfer from the airport to the hotel. Transport between Keflavik International Airport and Reykjavik City is 50 km and usually takes less than an hour.
Taxi - Taxis are clean and plentiful at Keflavik International Airport 24 hours a day. They can be found at the terminal and can bring guests to the hotel in good time.
Private Car - if you'd prefer a private car and driver, we can arrange one for you.
Bus - The buses are operated by Iceland Excursions' Airport Express and Reykjavik Excursions Kynnisferdir's Flybus services. They both have a timetable adapted to the arrival and departing flights' schedule (you can book directly). This is how most visitors travel between the airport and the city center. Tickets are around €30. It's a big, nice coach with onboard Wi-Fi and plenty of luggage storage.
Where do I stay if I arrive early or stay longer?
There's an optional Add-on to Arrive 1 Day Early and Stay 1 Day Longer that you can purchase from the Add-ons section. Our concierge, can help you if you have additional questions or wish to stay longer.
What is there to do in Reykjavik if I stay longer?
Sights to see in Reykjavik.
- Go whale watching. It requires advance booking, which we can help with.
- Ride an Icelandic pony (booking required)
- Explore the Whales of Iceland Museum ($23)
- Visit the Aurora Reykjavík – The Northern Lights Center ($16)
- Climb to the top of expressionist Hallgrímskirkja Church for great city views (free admission but access to the tower at $8)
- Take photos at the rainbow street (in front of the church)
- Do some last-minute shopping in town
What will the weather be like?
In late July and early August, the average temperature in Iceland ranges from 50°F to 68°F, with some warmer days reaching up to 77°F
What should I pack?
We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all the details and provide a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What are the new travel requirements for entering Europe?
The European Union will soon require travelers from visa-exempt countries like the U.S. and Canada to obtain travel authorization before entering most EU countries. This new system, called ETIAS, is expected to start sometime in 2025, but exact dates have not been announced.
Since ETIAS is not yet in effect, there’s nothing you need to do right now. We will update all Girls' Guide customers as soon as applications open.
What's the activity level for this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
