FAQs
What airport should I fly into/out of
You’ll want to fly into Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL). Be sure to arrive by 11 am to catch our 1 pm flight to Rovaniemi, a cost that's included in the trip price.
On departure, book your flight out of Oslo, Norway (OSL). If you are joining us for the trip extension, your flight from Bergen to Oslo is not included, giving you more flexibility in how you book onward travel.
When should I arrive?
The trip officially starts the afternoon of February 3rd, but if you are travelling across an ocean to get to Finland, you may want to consider arriving a day or two early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. Why not join us for a three-day pre-trip extension?
What should I pack?
We will have a Zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel tips.
In the meantime, plan to pack warm layers including thermal underwear, fleece or wool mid-layers, and a waterproof insulated coat, along with waterproof boots and gloves to stay comfortable in the cold and snow. Don’t forget a hat, neck gaiter, and swimsuit for our sauna visit.
What weather can I expect?
In February, Finland and Norway experience cold winter weather. Temperatures in Finland typically range from -10°F to 14°F, while in Norway, it can vary between 14°F and 32°F, with coastal areas being milder. Snow is common, especially in northern regions.
Do I need a visa?
U.S. citizens do not need a visa to enter Norway or Finland for tourist stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries (including the U.S., Canada, and Australia) must obtain ETIAS before entering Schengen countries. No action is needed yet.
Feel free to reach out with any questions!
What is the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
