FAQs
When should I arrive?
The core trip officially starts on July 15, but if you’re traveling a long way to Brazil, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. If you decide to arrive early, you can select Arrive 1 Night Early in Brazil in the Add-ons section. Otherwise, plan to arrive at our hotel in Rio by 1 pm on July 15.
If you're joining us for the Pre-Trip extension to Iguazu, we recommend you arrive in Rio de Janeiro on the night of July 12 so you can join our group flight to Iguazu early on July 13. If not, ensure you arrive at Rio International Airport by 7 am on July 13 at the latest.
What airport should I fly into/out of?
You should fly into Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG) to begin the trip. Our time together concludes in São Paulo, so book onward travel from São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
If you are joining us for the post-trip extension to Cuiabá, we've included a return flight to Rio at the end of the trip, so you can plan for onward travel from there.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 10 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important trip details and provide some guidance on packing. In the meantime, here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What will the weather be like in July?
July is one of the most pleasant times to visit southeastern Brazil, bringing mild, comfortable winter weather with generally lower humidity. In Rio and Paraty, expect warm days in the low to mid-70s°F (around 22–25°C) and cooler evenings in the 60s°F (16–19°C), ideal for sightseeing, beach walks, and al fresco dining, with occasional light rain possible in Paraty’s lush coastal setting. São Paulo is typically a bit cooler and drier, with crisp mornings, sunny afternoons in the upper 60s to low 70s°F (20–23°C), and refreshing evenings that may call for a light layer.
Do I need a visa to enter Brazil?
A valid passport is required for travel to Brazil and should be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, with blank pages available for entry stamps. Visa requirements vary by nationality, so we recommend checking the latest entry requirements well in advance of departure to ensure a smooth arrival.
What is the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
