FAQs
What airport should I fly into?
The trip begins in Sydney and ends in Melbourne, with an optional trip extension to Daylesford. Most international flights arrive in either Sydney or Melbourne, with plenty of daily domestic flights connecting large cities if it's easier to book a round-trip ticket to and from a single place.
If you are joining the Daylesford trip extension, it's just a short trip back to the Melbourne airport, and we'll provide private transfers depending on your departure time.
What day should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on the afternoon of January 20, but if you are traveling across an ocean to get to Australia, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone.
If you do decide to arrive early, please let us know in the 'Add-on' section, and we'll handle your hotel reservation so that you don't have to move rooms once the trip starts.
What's the weather like in Australia in late January?
In January, as we travel through Sydney, Tasmania, and Melbourne, we'll encounter varying weather conditions due to the varying coastal locations.
Daytime temperatures typically range from around 57°F to 80°F, with cooler temperatures near the coast and warmer temperatures inland.
What should I pack?
We will have a Zoom call about ten weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
Do I need a visa?
As an American citizen visiting Australia for tourism purposes, you can apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or an eVisitor visa. Both options are electronic visas that allow for short-term stays in Australia. We recommend applying about a month before departure, but the turnaround is usually very quick.
Both the ETA and eVisitor visas are valid for up to 12 months from the date of grant or until the expiration of your passport, whichever comes first. They allow for multiple entries into Australia during the validity period.
Before traveling, ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay in Australia. Additionally, review the specific entry requirements and conditions associated with the ETA or eVisitor visa, such as restrictions on employment and study while in Australia. Go to this website to apply for your visa!
What is the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
