Overview
Explore the beauty of Switzerland, starting in Zurich, a jewel of a city situated on Lake Zurich. Then, join us as we travel south. We'll make a one night stop in Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland. Next, we're off to the glamorous town of St. Moritz for an afternoon of lunch and shopping, followed by a trip to the Engadin, a breathtaking Alpine valley in the eastern Swiss Alps. To add a personal touch to our journey, here you'll meet up with Carolyn, one of our founders' best friends. Her family has owned a historic 16th-century home here for the past 200 years. This region has a vibrant history, and even has its own language, spoken since 15 BC. In Zurich, we'll explore the historic district and visit an artisanal chocolatier for a chocolate tour and tasting. We'll see the iconic Le Corbusier Pavilion and stroll through lush botanical gardens. It’s a delightful mix of history, culture, and indulgence. Next, we'll journey to Chur, Switzerland's oldest city, to uncover hidden gems. From there, we’ll hop on a train to the enchanting Engadin, Carolyn’s home turf. Imagine the thrill of ascending the Alps by cable car and the warmth of learning to cook fondue at Carolyn's ancestral home. For those with more wanderlust, the adventure doesn’t have to end. Opt to continue on one of Europe’s most scenic train rides to Italy, where you’ll spend two nights indulging in homemade pasta, savoring Italian wines, and exploring beautiful palazzos and historic churches. Join us for this Alpine adventure with a dash of Italian sizzle – it’s a journey you don’t want to miss!

FAQs
What airport should I fly into/out of?
You should fly round-trip from Zurich Airport (ZRH) if you are not taking the extension trip. If you are planning onward travel from Zurich at the end of the trip, you'll arrive in the city at around 12:30 and catch a 10-minute train to the airport. You should schedule any departing flights after 4 pm to ensure you have enough time to clear security and customs.
If you are opting into the extension, you should book your arriving flight to Zurich and your departing flight out of Milan (MXP).
When should I arrive?
The trip officially starts on the afternoon of August 3rd, but if you're traveling across an ocean, consider arriving a day early so you have time to relax and adjust to the local time zone. If you do decide to arrive early, please let us know by purchasing an extra night in the Add-on section of this page, and we will book your room for you and make sure you are kept in the same room when the trip starts.
What will the weather be like during the trip?
In August, the weather in Switzerland is typically warm with temperatures ranging from 68°F to 82°F, occasionally accompanied by moderate rainfall in the form of showers or thunderstorms.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel tips.
Do I need a visa to enter Switzerland?
Beginning in late 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries - including the U.S., Canada, and Australia - will need an ETIAS permit to visit most of Europe. No action is needed just yet. As we get closer to the launch date, likely several months in advance, we’ll share all the details on how to apply. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
What's the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
