FAQs
Where should I fly to?
The best option is to fly into Haneda Airport (HND) as we'll be leaving from there on November 4 for a short domestic flight to Fukuoka. But if the best flight for you is into Narita airport (NRT), that's alright too. But you'll need to transfer to Haneda the morning of November 4.
When should I arrive?
The trip officially begins on November 4, 2026, but if you're on a lengthy overnight flight to Tokyo, we recommend that you arrive a day early so you have time to rest, relax and get acclimated to the local time. There are several high-quality hotels at Haneda Airport, including the Hotel Villa Fontaine.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What's the weather like in Kyushu in November?
November is a lovely time to visit Kyushu and Okinawa, with mild temperatures and generally comfortable weather across both regions. In Kyushu, expect crisp, pleasant days with temperatures typically ranging from the mid-50s to low-70s °F (13–22 °C), cooler evenings, and low humidity—ideal for sightseeing, hot springs, and fall foliage. Okinawa stays warmer and more subtropical, with daytime temperatures hovering around the low-70s to low-80s °F (22–27 °C).
Do I need a visa to enter Japan?
American citizens do not need a visa to enter Japan for short-term tourism stays of up to 90 days. You can enter Japan visa-free with a valid passport. It is best practice to travel with at least 6 months of validity on your passport.
What's the activity level of this trip?
We require that everyone traveling with Girls' Guide be able to comfortably walk 3–5 miles per day unassisted, and without difficulty, can navigate stairs, uneven streets or paths, and occasional steep terrain. Most of our trips require this level of physical mobility and fitness, especially when visiting historic towns and landmarks where vehicle access is limited and walking often offers the best experience.
Additionally, some of the 4 and 5-star boutique or historic hotels we stay in do not have elevators and may require climbing stairs to get to your room or access other facilities in the hotel.
