FAQs
How do I get to Nepal?
Fly direct from your nearby international airport to Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu. If there are no direct flights, check connecting routes through major hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Istanbul, or Tokyo.
When should I arrive?
The trip officially starts in Nepal on October 24th, 2027. Consider arriving in Asia a day early so you have time to rest, relax, and adjust to the local time zone. If you decide to arrive early, why not join our pre-trip extension and enjoy a peaceful few days in Nagarkot or a pre-trip night in Kathmandu? Or maybe stay in Bangkok or Delhi if you're flying through either city.
What will the weather be like in late October and early November?
October in Bhutan brings a pleasantly cool autumn season, with stable, moderate weather. Average temperatures hover around 72°F, making it an ideal time to visit. In higher altitude areas like Punakha and Thimphu, the climate is cooler.
In Nepal, October is considered the autumn season, making it one of the most favorable months. With daytime temperatures hovering around 70°F and mostly dry, sunny weather, October offers perfect conditions for hiking and other outdoor adventures. The clear skies and comfortable temperatures allow you to enjoy the stunning landscapes and breathtaking views without the hindrance of rain or extreme cold.
Do I need a visa to enter either country?
You need a tourist visa to enter each country. The government also charges daily tourist fees. These fees are added to the total price at checkout when you book the trip. We will take care of obtaining the visas and pay your fees in advance.
What should I pack?
We'll have a Zoom call about 8 weeks before the trip starts to discuss important logistics and give you packing guidance. In the meantime, here is a great website that we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
What is the activity level of this trip?
Easy to moderate. All of our trips include some walking, so you need to be able to walk 3-5 miles a day at a normal pace and maintain a casual speed. People have joined our tours from 21 to 88, and we don't do anything extreme, but if you have bad knees or a back or walk with a cane, you need to speak to us first to see if this trip is right for you. At times, you'll need to be able to walk on uneven ground, such as cobblestone, and to go up and down stairs unassisted. You also need to be able to handle your own suitcase.
Note: The climb to the Tiger's Nest is not insignificant and takes 5-7 hours round-trip, with a break for lunch and to see the monastery. You are at over 10,000 feet of elevation, beginning at about 8,500 feet, which means you'll be climbing up and down; however, the pathway isn't too difficult. It's not a scramble over rocks, and quite a few 80 and 90-year-olds have done this hike. However, if you are not a hiker, you should train for at least 6 weeks before attempting the hike. You can take it as slow or fast as you want. You can opt out of the hike once in Bhutan; it is not required.
