Paris Shopping: Seen on the Streets of Paris

There are coats that you can make a style statement with and coats that just keep you warm. Now that the first day of spring has come and gone and the Paris shopping scene looks a little brighter, we Europeans know we still have to keep warm—but at least most of us won’t be bundled up in huge parkas. It is the coat that must make every outfit work and work with every outfit. Here’s a selection of pieces from the streets of Paris that are still ready to fight the cold but look nice doing so.
There was quite a lot of neutral plaid and houndstooth about, either in masculine hunting cuts or with gathered and puffed sleeves and straight collars. But no outerwear roundup would be complete without a little Chanel. This specimen made the wearer’s jeans and striped T-shirt look expensive. With the bracelet-length sleeves and recognizable Chanel print, it’s the perfect example of why we should all invest in a good coat.
A girl in the Marais also caught my eye; she was wearing an army-green trench coat in a classic cut. The piece had a defined waist—but not too much!—making it casual but with a certain elegance. Definitely one of those coats to be worn forever.
