With good reason, Paris is widely known for its charm and its cozy streets that inspire leisurely walks. It is less recognized as the bustling urban metropolis brimming with professionals that it also is. Long days in this major city encourage the international pastime of early evening drinks better known as happy hour. Here are some Paris bars that host the best happy hours, where you’ll get great bang for your euro.

Chez Vous
15, rue Choron, in the 9th Arrondissement. 01 42 81 00 71.

Situated on the quiet rue Choron just off the busy rue des Martyrs is the cozy Chez Vous. Until 8 p.m., you can settle in the back on the quilted couch or at rustic wooden tables and sip on €5 cocktails, beer or champagne. Because the restaurant does not get busy until the dinner crowd arrives (reservations are recommended), the attentive service, soft music and homey atmosphere make you feel like you are actually chez vous.

Le Mademoiselle
14, avenue Philippe Auguste, in the 11th Arrondissement. 01 43 48 02 22.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more jaunt, a fun option would be to round up the girls for drinks at le Mademoiselle. This girlish bar casts hues of red and pink and pulls in a strong happy hour crowd. Between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., enjoy creative cocktails infused with tea, herbs and premium liquor, with coquettish names like Bad Girl and Ladies’ Night. The €4.50 cocktails encourage a round of shared tapas, priced between €3.50 and €8.50, which will keep you here even after happy hour.

Le Motel
8, Passage Josset, in the 11th Arrondissement. 01 58 30 84 68.

For those wanting to see how the Parisian creative set does happy hour, sip on draft beer and sweet mojitos to the soundtrack of Pavement and Joy Division at le Motel. This spot is hidden in the nook of the Passage Josset in the trendy part of the 11th Arrondissement. Enjoy €4.50 cocktails and beer for €3.50 until 9 p.m. while lounging on vintage couches in the front room or leaning up against the centrally located bar in the back. (Please note: this bar is closed on Mondays.)

Café le Baron
11, rue de Châteaudun, in the 9th Arrondissement. 01 48 78 13 68.

Wrapped around a wide corner in the commercial 9th Arrondissement, Café le Baron certainly had its professional clientele in mind when formulating its happy hour menu. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., le Baron offers €5 cocktails, beer and prosecco. While you sip on drinks and unwind from a long day, the friendly staff serves up small plates of hors d’oeuvres ranging from handmade mini pizzas to tapenade tartines. Did I mention that these little bites are free? This is a happy hour indeed.
