Les Foodies in Paris

All of Paris is super excited about the recent opening of the Eataly franchise in the 4th arrondissement aka the Marais. However if you can’t handle the crowds then head just beyond the Italian superstore, to a discrete and innovative upscale neo-bistro. The delightful co-owners of Les Foodies, as the name implies, are true foodies in the purest sense of the term. Their knowledge of authentic and seasonal products coupled with their enthusiasm for international cuisine is infectious.

The menu changes monthly according to the market’s freshest ingredients. The Italian chef Davide Galloni calls on his childhood spent in Asia to marry rich and deep flavors using his gastronomic artistry skills which he mastered at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. While pasta is clearly featured on the menu, it is adapted in original pairings.

recent visit, we feasted on a beautiful homemade squid’s ink spaghetti accompanied by a carpaccio of scallops and topped with a touch of bottarga. The other main was pork which was cooked perfectly and was coupled with a lush and bright Thai curry. Vegetarians will also find their manna here, as the menu includes vivid salads bursting with flavor and a deliciously earthy fricassee of seasonal vegetables, topped with a vibrant runny egg and an indulgent amount of truffle shavings.

The co-owner Alex Kogan is a welcoming and hands on host, who is also very helpful in suggesting wine pairings. There is little pretension, just good honest hospitality, and attention to detail (the plates themselves were as innovative as the dishes) and a lovely curiosity about food which they are eager to share.

In a neighborhood, which boasts more bars than restaurants, Les Foodies is a wonderful addition which is sure to become a mainstay.
