Since most of this trip takes place on a sailboat, you must feel comfortable on the water, moving about the vessel, including the use of stairs, and know how to swim.
Catamarans are relatively spacious, but compared to being on land, living spaces, cabins, and bathrooms are smaller. Still, you’ll spend the most of your time above board in the open air.
Please note that sailing is dependent on the weather, so itinerary changes may occur at the last minute if the weather becomes unfavorable. If any changes are made, you can trust your knowledgeable skipper to choose an alternative route or activity.
Flying into Bangkok and take a connecting flight to Phuket Island is the easiest route for most people. Reverse your steps to get home. There's an optional Pre-Trip Extension for two nights to see Phuket Island (by land). If you'd like to explore Bangkok, build in time before or after the trip.
Over the many years we've operated we've been able to work with almost every diet or allergy from vegan to lactose-free.
The weather in Thailand is always warm, ranging from 78-93F - ideal for swimming and sailing. Bring a hat, swimsuits, and lots of reef-safe suntan lotion. April is still in the dry season, but there can be brief rain occasionally.
We'll have a pre-trip call about 2 months before we leave so everyone can meet one another and we'll talk about logistics including exactly what to pack. But in general, less is more. You'll spend much of your day in a bathing suite.
Catamarans are very stable, with far less side-to-side rocking than a traditional monohull sailboat. As a result, most people are comfortable aboard a catamaran. Your “sea legs” will come naturally, but some people have a more difficult time adjusting to boat life. There are effective preventative treatments if you’re worried about seasickness.
A zodiac (small inflatable boat) transports passengers ashore, with landings taking place at docks (dry landings) and on beaches (wet landings). Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb into and out of, but a sense of humor and a can-do attitude is all you need.
Time on the water also means time in the sun. Remember to pack sun protection, like sunscreen and a hat. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
