Hands down my favorite NYC bar. The drinks are fantastic, the bartenders just the right mix of cute and sassy, but it really is the decor that seals the deal. The ceilings are glittery, punk-rock swirls; the walls lined with retro-style beauty salon fixtures and old bottles and jars of beauty-days gone; the bathrooms are papered in zebra prints; and the music is fabulous. Regardless of how long you're staying, make sure to stop in for a drink and a manicure : it's not to be missed!

It's all about the interior design at Beauty Bar...ok, ok, the drinks, music, and overall atmosphere are pretty fab too. The 1950's beauty salon inspired interiors are amazing. Think retro hairdryer hoods, vintage hair dresser chairs and mirrors, plastic sofas, and jukeboxes. NYC's Beauty Bar is the original. There are now Beauty Bars in LA, San Fran, San Diego, Vegas, and Austin. While I haven't been to all of them (though am not opposed to the challenge), I cannot get over how insanely cool this place is. 80's music and an unrivaled happy hour are appealing enough...the cocktail + manicure for ten dollars and the incredible interiors take this bar to a whole new level that can't be beat.

An Australian-import, this is a true must-have in NYC. Not only are the drinks delicious, the chocolates are decadent and inventive. This the atmosphere won't leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, either. It's not over-crowded, and is small enough to make you feel like you aren't in a huge tourist trap.

Such a cool idea. If you're a chocolate lover (and what girls isn't?) then stop by Max Brenner. I had the banana split latte, I think it may have been the best thing I have ever tasted.

Great write-up Jen12! I completely agree - Private Room is amazing! Just to let you know - it does have a large club room with about 13 or so tables and a dance floor that is open to the public, in addition to the nine private rooms that you have to book.

I went to Room Service for a private party, so we had a private room (though I think that's all there are, not sure though). The concept is to offer services that are normally associated with five-star hotels. Comfy couches, cloakroom service, a fully stocked mini-bar, flat screen tv with dvd player, and the best part - a drawer full of mouthwash, toothpaste, and condoms! We had our own butler who will do anything from customized cocktails to massages, silk pajamas, or a five course meal! It is such a fun place...and just an overall cool experience. We didn't want to leave!

I'm gonna say it...this is my favorite bar (though it's really a pub) in NYC. Maybe the world. Ladies, the bartenders are married, but they're fantastic, and they've been the same ever since I've lived in the neighborhood (6 years). They have free bags of chips on the tables (plain AND barbecue!). Now they have free wings. They have all kinds of great beers on tap, and the guys know how to mix anything you ask for. It's laid-back, unpretentious, and if you stay long enough, you start getting free drinks on the house. Best.Bar.Ever.

Ultra claims to be "designed to indulge all your senses." From a giant projection wall and dramatic lighting to a stellar sound system and sound machines, they have pretty well got you covered...especially with the tasty cocktails. The biggest eye-catcher is the VIP treehouse. While we weren't quite cool enough to make it there, it's covered with flowers, ivy, and real trees...and would clearly be incredible...maybe someday! But in the meantime, Ultra for the general population is fabulous enough for me!

Located in the Meatpacking District, like many of the new hot spots in New York, we had a great experience at Spice Market on our last trip to NYC. The scene was well attending but not so overpacked that you can't breathe. They had a great cocktail menu that included some asian inspired drinks that we really enjoyed. We didn't have a meal there, but everyone we talked to said the food was excellent as well. Great decor. I would recommend stopping in for dinner or a few drinks. Only word of caution..it can be very difficult to get a cab home from that area so walk a few blocks from there and you will have better luck.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. It's where my boyfriend of 5+ years and I met (awww). It's known to be a hangout for members of the Yankees after games (I once took the seat that Roger Clemens had been sitting in just before, and A-Rod was spotted with Kate Hudson there last week). The food USED to be fantastic. Now it's not really great and the prices continue to go up. But their mojitos are great. The music is consistently too loud (like, so loud that you can't have a conversation), and the service is seriously spotty (a few months ago, we waited for half an hour for anyone to come take our orders, and we ended up leaving and going to the bar across the street instead). So, overall, meh?

Maybe I hit Agave on a bad night, but I have to say, I was not impressed. It was extremely crowded and it took us awhile to get a table despite our reservations. The food took forever to come, and when it did arrive, it was decidedly average. Even the drinks weren't worth it. There are definitely better places to eat (and drink) in NYC.
