If you're going to splurge on a meal in Dubai, it should be at Al Mahara. Everything in top-notch. Phenomenal food, outstanding eye candy (a huge saltwater aquarium in the center of the restaurant) and pseudo-submarine "elevator" ride to the restaurant itself. The washrooms are spectacular and the attendant is actually helpful. Upon being seated, you will be offered a PASHMINA if you're chilly and a PURSE HOOK for the edge of the table so you're purse doesn't have to sit on the floor. My boyfriend and I went on the final night of our Dubai visit. It was our anniversary and we had mentioned that when making our reservation. Not only was our table set up with flowers when we entered, but they brought us a full-size complimentary cake with edible gold flake on it for dessert. I felt so bad asking if they could box it for an airplane, but I wasn't going back to the States without it! A secondary bonus to dropping tons of cash on dinner is that you get to check out the amazing Burj Al Arab hotel on the way up to dinner (otherwise you have to pay to get in and just look around). Make sure you come early so you can read about the "World's Most Expensive Drink" available at the Skyview bar on the top floor! Beware of the US$90/head min charge there, though. The Burj, Skyview and Al Mahara are all Must-Sees during a visit to Dubai!

Elegant, contemporary cuisine, outstanding service and great views of Dubai are what you get from Vu's on the 50th floor of the Emirates Tower. The servers refer to you by name and check on you throughout your entire meal. Never before had I seen savory black olives incorporated into a dessert, but they made it work! You will not be disappointed with anything you try on the their menu. Plan ahead, as they're closed on Fridays! Vu's bar up the steep spiral stairs is also worth a look pre or post-dinner.
